Blog Journal - September 24th Edition

☺WELCOME TO MY BLOG JOURNAL #3☺

  • A paragraph about copyright and fair use. Explain both of these concepts in your own words. How would you deal with these concepts as a teacher, developing your own instructional materials, and having students create their own works?

In my own words, I'd define copyright as the right of a creator to determine how, when, and where their intellectual property and invention(s) can be distributed. For example, when musicians/record companies have copyright claims on their music, they can make it so that when someone in the general public plays said music for something like a promotion, they have to pay a fee or a royalty. As for fair use, I believe it is when someone redistributes content with the intent to educate, entertain, etc. while also establishing that said content belongs to its original entity of origin. This is something I've seen on YouTube; where creators who are reuploading something like a cartoon episode usually credit the cartoon channel or creator when starting the video.

  • A paragraph about technology implementation issues. Select 2 of the technology implementation issues listed below. Propose a solution to each issue that you could implement in your future classroom. Be specific.
    • Academic dishonesty
    • Cyberbullying
    • Decreased productivity
    • Lack of funding
    • Student privacy

The two technology implementation issues I have personally selected to solve were decreased productivity and student privacy. Personally, for my own classroom, I would elect hands-on lessons as the method to combat decreased productivity. I feel that the issue with productivity lies within whether or not students get to interact with the material they're learning, and considering my aspirations lie in teaching visually impaired students, I would want to incorporate braille and auditory aids into lessons where appropriate. Going on to student privacy, I would combat this regarding how we do class discussions and group work. Sites like Jamboard would utilized for things like bellringers and the like where students are required to give their personal opinions so that they can still contribute but they don't feel the pressure of micromanaging the accuracy of their response out of fear that they are incorrect or that they'll embarrass themselves.

  • A paragraph about the new skills you acquired from working on the Newsletter Design assignment. How could you improve your newsletter in the future? How can the skills you learned from the assignment be used in your future career?

In a general sense, I feel that the Newsletter Design assignment aided in making Word have a permanent placement in my personal classroom technology. While I still prefer Google applications for most other tasks, for newsletters I will use Word as I like that there is a bit of creative freeness, and I can appreciate the ability to pinpoint things like text alignment, font styles, etc. in ways that may not be available on applications like Google Docs. One piece of advice that I will keep in mind that was brought up in the feedback comments was making the text 12pt. for better visibility, which I will keep in mind to improve future newsletters. As such, these skills can be used in my future career for making fun and engaging newsletters that will not only inform but captivate parents so that they are eager to be involved and knowledgeable about the activities that go on in their student's day-to-day school life.

Below you can find the screenshots of my newsletter! Hope you enjoy it.
