Blog Journal - October 15th Edition

☺WELCOME TO MY BLOG JOURNAL #6☺

  • A paragraph about your initial experiences using Diigo.  What do you like/not like about using Diigo?

I am not the biggest fan of Diigo. I personally feel like it didn't really contribute anything to our curriculum and it was more or less one of our more disappointing software options. It felt like a failed attempt at an educational version of Twitter and overall the format doesn't make the site any more appealing. Additionally, as a web extension it is more or less useless and a nuisance in the sense that while Grammarly tends to get in the way while typing, it has its moments of convenience, whereas Diigo popping up whenever I click on certain things annoys me. I personally would not and don't want to implement this software in my classroom, however, I can still somewhat look outside my bias and acknowledge its usability.

  • A paragraph about your experience with blogging. What do you like/not like about blogging?  What have you learned, so far, during the blogging process?

I like being able to format my blog and getting to personalize it to my own liking, but that's about it in terms of my list of things I enjoy with Blogger. I don't like how the panel is set up for actually typing out my blog, it feels like I'm not writing a blog and more like I'm typing on a secondhand version of Google Docs or Microsoft Word. However, I have learned a lot about how I would want my blog to look if I wrote one for the parents of my students or if I wrote one in general about my experiences as a Visual Disabilities educator.

  • A paragraph about an interesting Web 2.0 tool that you might use when teaching. Do not choose a tool we have already covered (e.g., Diigo, Twitter, blogs). Write a review and include a link to the tool.

One Web 2.0 tool that I would want to use is Canva, I have heavily utilized this tool in my leadership positions during high school to make flyers for club events as well as for personal projects. It is an amazing tool for graphic designing and I would use it in the classroom to create flyers and other graphics for the classroom.

Here is the link to Canva: https://www.canva.com/
