Blog Journal - November 5th Edition

☺WELCOME TO MY BLOG JOURNAL #8☺

  • A paragraph about the new skills you acquired from working on the Web Design assignment. Reflect on what you liked/disliked about the assignment. How can what you learned from the assignment be used in your future career? Post a link to your website.

From working on the Web Design assignment, I realized that Weebly is NOT a website I'd like to use for my future classroom. I ended up really frustrated to the point I decided to just use Google Sites. Weebly is not a good platform for me due to the difficulty of making the site templates your own, navigating the editing tools felt over-complicated, and just in general I felt very stressed and overwhelmed trying to make it work with Weebly. However, from this assignment, I've learned a new way of relaying class information aside from the newsletter, and I think I will utilize this a bit more than newsletters, especially since there was the option to add an online calendar, and I think as a more tech-focused generation, an online calendar might be more resourceful than just listing event dates on paper.

  • A paragraph about the new skills you learned from working with Diigo. How can this application be useful in your classroom, with team members, and in your individual professional efforts?

While I don't necessarily feel like I learned anything from using Diigo, I will say that it could be used in a classroom setting to help students gather sources for research. Similarily to how we pulled information from the university library website to post to Diigo and had the opportunity to tag it with keywords that were relevant to our source(s), I would do that with my students and have them place sources on their Diigo sites to have for assignments that require them to cite information or do outside research on a subject. That would really be the only way I would incorporate it into my own classroom though, outside of that I wouldn't choose this as a part of my teaching tool roster.

  • A paragraph about technology and teacher professional development. Teachers are tasked with being the driving force of technology innovation in education -- which is directly related to professional development, how we stay aware of changes.  Post a link and description of one site you could use to stay informed of technology trends in education.

One site that can be used to stay informed of technology trends in education is EdTech Magazine. This site has loads on loads of articles about AI, the cloud, etc. and not only gives explanations on these things but also has other articles related to how to maintain class electronics and things of that nature. Overall this site seems very resourceful and a great tool for staying informed on not only technology trends in education but also learning more about it and how it benefits schools.
