Blog Journal - October 8th Edition

☺WELCOME TO MY BLOG JOURNAL #5☺

  • Your early experiences using Twitter. With whom have you been interacting and how have you found it beneficial? How might Twitter be helpful in your future career?

In terms of my earlier uses of Twitter, it has primarily been to get news as well as interact with people who had the same interests as me (i.e K-Pop, Anime), people who were the same race/ethnicity as me, to receive news regarding domestic and especially global events, etc. I found it beneficial seeing that I got to see the opinions of others and get informed on things that I want to learn about. I would say that I can find it to be helpful in my future career for doing the exact same thing but in the context of visual disabilities education and just overall the education sector, whether it be the United States education system or how other nations operate their educational system.

  • The digital divide. How does the digital divide affect student success in schools? What are some causes of the digital divide? Reflect on what you may experience as a classroom teacher and how this will affect your teaching strategies.

The digital divide affects student success in schools through the inaccessibility/added stress it brings students. Some causes of this may be financial hardship, religious beliefs, being in school districts with less electronic resources, etc. As a classroom teacher and as someone who has been through the school system, I think some issues I will run into are having to accommodate students with their technology and making sure that they can actually use it, which could cut into classroom time. However, I would want to use the first week of classes as a means to get the students accustomed to their devices as well as make sure everyone has a device.

  • Academic software for students. Identify two software tools you would like to implement in your future classroom. Describe the software tools and why you would like to use them with your future students.

Two software tools I would like to implement in my future classroom would be Microsoft Word and Google Slides. Microsoft Word would be used interchangeably between students and parents, and I would utilize it for things like worksheets, permission slips, monthly newsletters, etc. As for Google Slides, I would utilize this to make a "virtual classroom" that students can navigate to find things like the lesson objectives, links to the day/week's lessons on Google Classroom, etc.
